Neil Aird studied at Glasgow School of Art and was the winner of the 1967 Diamonds International Award, sponsored by De Beers, alongside fellow student and now internationally recognised artist jeweller Dorothy Hogg. Other winners of the award have included Seaman Schepps, Pierre Sterle, Andrew Grima and Asprey & Co. Over 2,428 entries were submitted by 590 designers in 1967 of which the 30 best designs were selected by a panel of judges based on beauty, originality, wearability and imaginative use of materials. This necklace was featured in Aird's 1967/68 Diploma exhibition at the Glasgow School of Art.
