The Grocer Company of Glasgow which was established in 1789 and incorporated in 1796 was and is primarily concerned with the relief of poverty specifically relating to the family of members or former members of the provision trade in Glasgow to care for the "wives and daughters of members in indigent circumstances".
Many of the charges used in these arms reflect those of the Worshipful Company of Grocers of the City of London.
