the base of naturalistic form, the sides profusely painted with thistles, each hinged cover painted with a scene from Burns, one inscribed 'Weel done, Cutty - sark!', from Tam O'Shanter; the other inscribed 'It is the moon, I ken her horn', from Willie Brew'd a Peck O'Maut; inscribed to the centre with a further verse, 'Gie him strong drink, until he wink, That's sinking in despair; Till he forgets his loves or debts, An minds his griefs nae mair', from Scotch Drink
