Footnote
To commemorate the 100th birthday of Queen Elizabeth, The late Queen Mother, The Salmon & Trout Trust commissioned the then 28 year old contemporary jeweller, Rachel Jeffrey to design a limited edition brooch, one to represent each year of the late Queen Mother's life.
The brooch's design was based on that of the fly by David Fynsong and dedicated to the Queen Mother, who was a keen salmon fisher along the banks of the Aberdeenshire Dee. The crown motif, as well as references to her racing colours feature in the fly and enhance the subtle allusions to her passions that Jeffrey makes through the design. The first brooch which was gifted to the late Queen Mother was then passed on to the now Queen Camilla in 2002, who regularly wears the piece at public occasions.
Rachel Jeffrey in her early career was able to launch her business with the help of The Prince's Trust, and proceeds from the original sale of these brooches was split between The Prince's Trust and the Salmon & Trout Association in their work to protect the UK's waterways and fisheries.
