Footnote
The sunflower was associated with the return of the Stuart reign and is a symbol of loyalty as the head of a sunflower constantly follows the sun. The jaybird in flight may represent James, the Stuart heir, as a bird, either fleeing or returning, while it is also thought to relate to the name ‘James’.
