Footnote
Note: The original made circa 1500 can found housed in the British Museum and was discovered on the Estate of Lochbuie in Mull.
By descent through the female line, the brooch was handed down until Anna Campbell, lady to Murdock McLean who had no male issue. She gave it to Isabella McLean, their daughter, spouse to John Scrogie, Esq, to whom she presented it to on the day after their marriage.
The Lochbuie brooch is very similar to that of two other contemporary brooches, the Ugadale or Lossit brooch and the Brooch of Lorn all of turreted form.
