Note: The Royal Bank of Scotland was set up in 1727 when the Bank of Scotland lost its monopoly as it was suspected of having Jacobite sympathies. The current lot, the coat of arms of the bank, is a relative newcomer and was only granted in 1960. In 1969 it was supplanted by the familiar brand symbol which is still used today.
