Footnote
Note: During the late 19th century, the Scottish ironworks trade thrived as the industrial revolution brought more efficient manufacturing processes and better access to natural resources. Initial designs for garden furniture were relatively simple, however, they became increasingly stylised as the demand for decorative cast-iron products grew. This particular example draws on the Coalbrookdale style; featuring a brightly coloured ornamental pattern of blackberries and scrolled ferns, popular motifs of the Victorian era.
