of rectangular form, the hinged cover decorated with a penwork view of Kinfauns Castle from the loch's edge, the tapering sides also decorated; the front with a panel of thistles flanking an interior scene with figures and two lines from Robert Burns' Halloween "In order on the clean hearth-stane, The luggies three are ranged"; the right side decorated with a view of a Highlander outside a cave and two lines from Robert Burns' Strathallan's Lament "Thickest night o'erhang my dwelling, Howling tempests o'er me rave"; the left side decorated with a couple in a rural setting and with line by Bernardin de St Pierre - Studies of nature "To repeat the lessons of it, to the fair one whom he loves"; the rear with a panel of thistles flanking an interior view of an old couple and two lines from Robert Burns' Scotch Drink "His wee drap parritch, or his bread, Thou kitchens fine", all raised on gilt feet, velvet lined interior
