Footnote
Note:
Although work by McEwan is not rare, examples with his unique lion passant / walking cat marks are highly unusual. The exact use of the this punch is un explained but it seems highly likely he was trying to replicate the style and punches used in official hallmarking in England; an attempt at a sterling standard lion passant mark.
