Footnote
Provenance:
Alexander McRae and Janet Johnston, believed to be a marriage gift in February 1799
by descent
gifted to current vendor on ending of the direct family line (sold with various family history records and notes)
Notes:
although engraved initials are virtually standard on quaich lugs it is remarkably rare for the owners names to be known. The unbroken descent of this quaich through a single family line for over 200 years is highly unusual and the fact the names not long forgotten even more so.
