A Scottish mid 18th century Military Basket Hilted Backsword

Description
the basket of large proportions, it is formed of bars of rounded section and panels, the multi grooved knuckle plate and side plates are pierced with hearts and holes, the edges being decorated with shallow indentations. The outer shield is also pierced with hearts and holes, framed with a triple grooved border and decorated, top and bottom with 'fish tails' and shallow filing. The inner shield is replaced with a ring, the fore guards are of modest depth and the arms of the hilt join in a ring under the bun shaped pommel, surmounted by a large integral tang button. The fish skin covered grip has a twist of brass wire in the groove and iron ferrules top and bottom. The unmarked English blade has a wide full length fuller and a narrow fuller for about half it's length, the remainder of the blade is double edged
