Notes: The design for the Merrythought tong was Robb's own and the design was registered. These tongs are additionally struck with the registration number. Robb's registered the tongs 'Merrythought' and not 'wishbone' as they are often referred to today.
It is worth noting that the date struck to these tongs of 1888 is very early for hallmarked wares by Robb, his first parcel being sent to Edinburgh for assay in 1884.
