Description
the mounts by Hamilton & Inches, Edinburgh 1887 - 88, the rectangular oak casket with applied thistle leaf brackets to corners and raised on four inverted thistle head feet, the lid applied with the crest of a burning bush with the motto 'NEC TAMEN CONSUMEBATUR' in scroll below

Notes:
The crest and motto on the lid of the box are that of the Church of Scotland. The Latin quotation from Exodus 3.2 translates 'Yet it was not consumed' and apart from other places this image and motto appears over the Meeting Place of the General Assembly in Edinburgh.
The date of manufacture of 1887 must be noted as this was the year of Queen Victoria's golden jubilee celebrations, it must be have been connected to the Jubilee celebrations
