Footnote
Note: Having won two travel awards whilst a student and living in France for fourteen years before World War Two, Redpath resumed regular travelling in Europe from the late 1940s. She spent an extended period of time in Spain in the Spring of 1951, which provided subject matter for her work over several years. Redpath was drawn to the rich and ornate decoration of Catholic churches, particularly of their interiors. This can be seen in the present work, which is an attractive view through to an intimate altar setting and was probably executed on the spot.
