Footnote
This painting is closely related to Shieldaig on Loch Torridon of c.1946 which was included in the exhibition Adam Bruce Thomson: The Quiet Path held at the City Art Centre, Edinburgh in 2024. Its catalgoue entry reads ‘In the mid-1940s Thomson visited Shieldaig in Wester Ross. The remote village received few tourists at the time and he was charmed by its quiet, picturesque setting.’ (p.74).
Thanks are due to Dr Helen E. Scott, curator of the 2024 exhibition and author of the accompanying publication, for her help with our research into this painting.
