This painting previously belonged to the biscuit manufacturer Archibald J. Crawford of Fernlea, Mossley Hill, Liverpool. Cadell compiled between 1907 and 1930 of works that he sold or gave away (Private Collection on loan to the National Galleries of Scotland Archive). They acquired nine works, all of Iona, where they holidayed and originally met the artist.
