Record Breaking Result | Agnes Miller Parker's 'The Horse Fair' Achieves £176,600

‘The Scottish Doyen of Modern Art’: Place de l’Observatoire by John Duncan Fergusson

The winter 2025 edition of our flagship Scottish Paintings &amp; Sculpture auction achieved a total of over £1.66 million and 88% sold - &nbsp;led by a beautiful still life by the Scottish Colourist S. J. Peploe from a distinguished private American collection at £302,600 and a record breaking result for British Modernist Agnes Miller Parker's The Horse Fair at £176,600. &nbsp;&nbsp;Works by Peploe's fellow Colourist John Duncan Fergusson saw spirited bidding across the board, led by a gem of a Paris street scene at £75,800. Other highlights included a fine London view by David Roberts from the Ursula &amp; Gordon Bowyer Collection at £25,400, a nude shown in the Society of Scottish Artists’ exhibition of 1913 by Stanley Cursiter at £53,120 and a beautiful work by &nbsp;E.A. Hornel entitled The Peacock at £43,040. &nbsp;Many other celebrated artists also contributed to the sale’s success, including Elizabeth Blackadder from the Gillian Raffles Collection, David Young Cameron, R. G. Hutchison, G. L. Hunter, John MacLauchlan Milne, Alberto Morrocco, Charles Oppenheimer, Henry Raeburn and Stansmore Richmond Leslie Dean. Together, these results underscored the vibrancy and depth of the market for Scottish art and marked another confident performance for this important bi-annual auction.&nbsp;
