Sale number: 466&nbsp; Two major private collections of Scottish Colourist paintings led the field in our latest specialist auction of Scottish Paintings &amp; Sculpture in Edinburgh on 9th June 2016. A painting by Scottish Colourist F.C.B. Cadell's titled Still Life of Roses took the top spot at £434,500 (illustrated in the thumbnail). Enthusiastic bidders packed the sale room taking the final auction total to over £2.6 million.&nbsp; The major highlights of the auction came from two important private collections - the first a collection of Scottish Colourist paintings, including work by Cadell, Peploe and Hunter, known as the Wood Collection. A group of paintings purchased between the 1920s and the 1940s by the Edinburgh collector Walter Quarry Wood, President of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, with the advice of Duncan Macdonald of the renowned dealers Alex Reid and Lefevre and hung for many years in his family’s residence in the city’s New Town.&nbsp;&nbsp;The fourth Colourist, J.D. Fergusson, was represented by the second important collection in the auction – The Robertson Collection. His inspirational scene of French café life At a Café Table, gifted by the artist to Anne and Ian Robertson, caused quite a stir eventually selling for £194,500. A remarkable result for such a delicate 24cm x 19cm (9.5in x 7.5in) work. Other highlights included another piece by Fergusson, The Picnic, which sold for £80,500 and a wonderful study by one of Scotland’s most sought women artists Joan Eardley, Girl Nursing a Child, which after keen bidding sold for £43,750.&nbsp;Nick Curnow, Vice Chairman and Head of Scottish Art said&nbsp;<blockquote>"This is a great result and proves once again that Edinburgh is the place to sell Scottish paintings. The Scottish Colourists are particularly popular and we sold some very fine examples of their work, one of the highlights being Still Life of Roses by F.C.B Cadell for £434,500. The quality of the works on offer attracted the top collectors in Scottish Art, from across the nation and beyond.”&nbsp;</blockquote>
