Note:
In the 1970's, Wong moved to France and studied at the Ecole Nationale des Beaux Arts, initially in Poitiers and then Paris, and silk screen painting at the Galerie Du Haut Pave. He was one of the earliest of a generation of foreign trained painters who went to Europe to study, then returned to his native Hong Kong to embark on a career in contemporary art. His work, with its bold use of colour and overlapping paint layers creating a sense of depth, is free of social, urban and historical context, allowing colour and structure to be the primary focus. The influence of his training in France is seen in his sensuous approach to his work and can be related to French modernist contemporaries.
