Often focusing on familiar and archetypal narratives in a striking and individual style, Linda Sutton's jewel-hued paintings demonstrate her fascination with fairytale, and it is not surprising to learn that her love of painting first grew out of a childhood experience of convalescence. Confined to bed, with her imagination free to roam, Sutton fuelled her nascent creative urge with eading, and a trip to the Tate shortly after her
recovery confirmed her desire to become a painter. Having studied at Winchester College of Art, Sutton moved to Beligum in 1970, and was given a studio at the Antwerp Academy, where her work impressed Queen Fabiola of Belgium, who purchased one of her paintings. Returning to England in 1971, she continued her studies at the Royal College of Art under the tutelage of Robert de Grey and Carel Weight. While still a
student, her work was chosen for inclusion in the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, where she has continued to exhibit each year.
