Millar, 1748, first edition, woodcut ornament on title, 4 pages of advertisements at end, contemporary calf, spine with gilt ornaments in compartments, title with 3cm repair, and minuscule library number and author's name in ink, contents leaf with 2cm closed tear, slightly spotted, light teastain from G6 to end, upper joint repaired

Note: First edition of Hume's highly influential work, a revised and abridged version of Book I of his A Treatise of Human Nature, 1739-40. This work was immensely influential on Immanuel Kant and led directly to the development of Kant's own views published in his Critical Philosophy.
