Scotia Illustrata sive Prodromus Historiae Naturalis. Edinburgh: J. Kniblo, J. Solingensis & J. Colmarii, 1684, 4 parts in one volume, folio, frontispiece with coat-of-arms and 22 engraved plates, errata leaf, contemporary mottled calf, raised bands, red morocco lettering piece, Kimbolton Castle copy with book-label, early inscription of F. St. John, neatly rebacked and neatly repaired at corners

Note: A fine copy. Sibbald was the leading Scottish physician, antiquary and naturalist of his time. Each part has its own title, the third part including a short chapter on the Edinburgh physic garden, the first botanical garden in Scotland which owed its inception to Sibbald and Andrew Balfour. Sibbald was also instrumental in founding the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh and in 1682 was appointed physician to Charles II. Wing S3727
