55 pencil and watercolour studies, mainly South African costumes, including depictions of Khoikhoi, Cape Malay and Zulu people, also including 13 depictions of European costume, such as Maltese and Albanian people, all but 3 of the studies are laid-down into a contemporary half-calf scrapbook, spine lacking

Note: 41 of the 42 South African studies are signed 'JW', some would appear to be after work attributed to Alfred Dolman. Five of the European studies are signed, or labelled, 'Brocktorff' and the illustration of Ancient Maltese Costume is signed, or labelled, 'Fenech'.
