Footnote
Note: Norman Lindsay, 1879-1969, was born in Victoria, Australia, and taught himself to draw during times of illness as a child. In 1925, Lindsay's son, Jack, founded the Fanfrolico Press and many of the 40 books published by the press within the space of six years were illustrated by the father. A Homage to Sappho is an excellent example of Norman Lindsay's delicate etchings, and forms part of a tradition of erotic classical works translated into English and published in limited numbers by private presses.
