Note: A Dutch master pilot, Lucas Jansz Waghenaer, published Spiegel der Zeevaerdt in 1584. This influential first sea-atlas comprised charts, sailing directions, coastal views and navigational tables of the European coasts from Gibraltar to North Cape. It was widely translated and after the English edition of 1588, titled The Mariners Mirrour, sea-atlases became known as 'waggoners'.
