Description
The early Italian poets from Ciullo d'Alcamo to Dante Alghieri... translated by D.G. Rossetti. London: Smith, Elder & Co., 1861. First edition, 8vo, with 4pp. A.L.S. from D.G. Rossetti to John Skelton (1831-97), discussing his plans "I am going to publish some poems... I may reckon without too much conceit on an interest on your part to review them fully in Fraser. I am anxious that some influential article or articles by the well-affected should appear at once when the book comes out for certain good reasons...", and offering to send proofs and delay publishing until Skelton's review is ready. He refers to some of his poems published in the Fortnightly "I had tried to make them as perfect as in me lay", refers to Swinburne's desire to review his book in the Fortnightly "and Morris elsewhere", and asks Skelton whether McLeunan or Theodore Martin could review it in Blackwood. He ends abruptly "A model just came in. Farewell in haste", 16 Cheyne Walk, , 3 Feb. 1870, original brown cloth gilt, binding very slightly marked
