First edition, 8vo., frontispiece and other illustrations, publisher's red and black boards, dustwrappers designed by Waugh, upper joint weak, covers and spine worn, dustwrappers without spine label, torn at foot of spine and with edges a little frayed, upper inner fold of wrapper detached (but present), with the signature of Derek Verschoyle on the front free endpaper

Note: An interesting association copy. Waugh's musical adventures with his old pupil Verschoyle provide the basis for the account of Peter Beste-Chetwynd's organ lessons in the novel.
