Footnote
Note: Baker & Wachs A1a & b. Stoppard's first published play. "It was in boards and the boards were important. Rosecrantz and Guildenstern are dead was about as slim as a hardback could be, but it was a proper book. A paperback would not have felt the same." Quoted by Baker & Wachs pp. 1-2. The second paperback edition above referred to as the "Reprint edition" differs from Baker & Wachs "c" in that while on the verso of the titlepage it has "Reprinted May mcmlxvii" it does not have the words "Second edition in October mcmlxvii".
