Description
The works. London: printed by W. Bowyer, for Bernard Lintot, 1717- [Volume 2, by J. Wright, for Lawton Gilliver, 1735]. 2 volumes, 4to., engraved folding portrait of Pope by Vertue as frontispiece to volume 1, titlepages in red and black, that of volume 2 with an engraved vignette portrait, volume 1 with numerous head- and tail-pieces by Gribelin, in volume 2 by Fourdrinier, with O2 in volume 1 a cancel as usual, contemporary blind tooled, panelled calf, later rebacking, endpapers renewed, titlepage to first volume a little dusty and with some paper discolouration throughout, volume 2 with some discolouration and foxing and with a single worm hole in the upper outer corner of the margins of last few leaves of index and notes (not affecting text), and with worm holes in lower margins (not affecting text) through a number of signatures
