Homerides: or, Homer's first book moderniz'd, by Sir Iliad Doggrel. London: R. Burleigh, 1716. First edition, 8vo., with half title, with last blank leaf, modern quarter morocco, marbled boards, small stain to the fore-edges.
Footnote
Note: Guerinot pp. 20-23. One of the earliest attacks on Pope, including several anti-Catholic sneers. Published in advance of Pope's translation of Homer, it offers translations intended to serve Pope as a model. The pamphlet was originally intended to have been called "The Hump Conference", containing offensive personal abuse toned down by Addison.
