Description
The Homes and Haunts of Sir Walter Scott, Bart. Glasgow: James Maclehose & Sons, 1897. First edition, 8vo, intricate green morocco panelled gilt tooling decorated in the arts & crafts style depicting floral arrangements with a diamond-shape in centre, spine banded in six compartments with gilt floral motifs, red and green morocco with corner floral motifs to end papers, signed 'de Sauty', red morocco to free endpapers, spine sunned

Note: Book binder Alfred de Sauty (1870-1949) was active in London around 1898 to 1923 before moving to Chicago. He signed London produced works 'de S' or 'de Sauty'. The positioning of the signature, either to the foot of the front doublure or to the centre of the bottom turn-in of the front upper board, depended upon whether de Sauty was present at the time of binding or not.
Provenance: original invoice dated 1912, bought of Otto Schulze & Co., by the author of the book,George G. Napier, Esq., for 8 pounds 8 shillings.
