Footnote
Note: Sir Walter Scott created the character of Edie Ochiltree in his 1816 novel, The Antiquary. Ochiltree is a 'Blue-gown', or 'gaberlunzie', a beggar with a slightly higher status in 19th century society than others. The character of Edie Ochiltree captured the imagination of the photographers. Their preferred model for Ochiltree was John Henning: a Scottish bust sculptor, who made images of well known personages, including Scott himself. [Bruce, David. Sun Pictures…, 1973, pp.68&78]
