Footnote
Note: Evelyn Waugh original MMs "Commando Raid" 7 pages typescript. This was first published in Life Magazine (slightly edited on P.63) in the November 17th 1941 issue pp 63-74. The late R.E. S. Tanner was Waugh's batman/servant on this raid and subsequently during the Crete campaign. Tanner is mentioned in Waugh's diaries and also Anthony Beevor's work on the Crete campaign. It is not known how this came into Tanner's possession but research has indicated that there appears to be no other copy. The University of Texas at Austin which holds Waugh's papers has reference to the MMs but no copy of the document. There is also reference to this Life magazine article in Essays, Reviews and Articles of Evelyn Waugh ed. Donat Gallaher London, 1983 pp. (The vendor does not own the copyright for items 2), 3) and 4) and the photograph of Evelyn Waugh. They are included in the bundle as additional provenance.) 263-268.
Provenance: R.E.S. Tanner, by descent, within the family, to the present owner.
