Footnote
Note: François Timoléon, Abbé de Choisy, was born in Paris in 1644 to parents attached to the French Royal Court. Until the age of 18, François was dressed as a girl, and, after brief experimentation in traditionally male costume, decided to resume dressing in female attire as an adult. François adopted the title Madame la Comtesse des Barres. This work was written by the Comtesse des Barres recounting her experiences living as a woman.
