Description
The Essex House Song Book... Essex House Press, 1903-1905. 8vo, ten parts bound as one, printed in red and black, decorations by Paul Woodroffe, red brown morocco with raised bands and blind-stamped trefoil decoration
Footnote
Provenance: Bookplate of John Morgan, an Aberdeen stonemason and Arts and Crafts enthusiast who was a friend of John Ruskin and Thomas Carlyle. An auction of his books took place in 1908. The bookplate is designed by Charles Ricketts.
Note: The binding is similar to those produced by Cockerell and to those produced by the bindery of the Guild of Handicraft, for whom the collection of songs enclosed in the book were formed. It is highly possible that Morgan purchased the book from the Essex House Press in its current binding.
