Manuscript document signed by the Mayor of Marseille, Raymond Bains[?], seemingly the minutes or report of a meeting dated 26 July 1815, mentioning the approaching departure of British troops and speaking highly of the troops' contributions "to the cause of the Bourbons", and in gratitude the city will give an engraved urn to Conrad, Baron Exmouth and to Sir Hudson Lowe, alongside staging a banquet, 4pp. each 44 x 29.5cm

Note: A British major during the Napoleonic wars, Sir Hudson Lowe is known for his position of governor of Saint Helena and as the custodian of Napoleon Bonaparte during his exile on the island. This document, written by the city of Marseille honouring Hudson Lowe, was written only seven days before he was appointed to the position of custodian, and demonstrates the high esteem in which he was held.
