Footnote
Provenance: The notes within the text appear to be those of Mr (Francis Dukinfield) Astley, of Dukinfield Lodge. Preliminary notes and the ownership signature are those of William Ford, Book & Print Seller, Manchester. A list of books purchased by Ford is loosely inserted into the book.
Note: William Ford's note to the paste-down endpaper reads: "Mr Astley's Catalogues of pictures. [?] his first sold at Liverpool, and his second, sold under the the commissions of Bankruptcy. The notes throughout are Mr Astley's...
The third sale of his property took place in 1825 after his sudden and lamented Death."
A letter from Mr Astley is laid-down into the book, relating to the sale of a painting, along with pictures of Dukinfield lodge, and a poster advertising the postponment of the sale, due to take place in June 1817, due to fears that prospective buyers, "...may be deterred from attending the Sale... in consequence of the Public Notice given by a Person styling himself the Messenger to a Commission of Bankrupt awarded against F.D. Astley."
