probably by Lord Polwarth, 7 pages, folio, 30th March 1737, headed "Magistrates of Edinburgh", "Lest there should be use for the following particulars tomorrow in the House of Lords, I beg leave to lay them before your Lordship", describing the "late trial of the drunk idiot (for he is not much better) McLauchlan as one of Porteous's murderers", the questioning of James Heriot and George Campbell, the role of the magistrates, the Solicitor General, the reporting to the Provost and Magistrates and Mr Lindsay of the whereabouts of Thomas Williamson, "one of the fellows who the night before had headed the mob that hanged Porteous" and their response, waterstained but mostly legible
