Footnote
Note: Although James II had died in 1701, Mary of Modena survived until 1718. In this letter of 27 February 1716, not long after the rebellion failed, Mary writes to her cousin, Cardinal Odescalchi, concerning a recent festival and appreciating his friendship. His friendship was undoubtedly of importance to her at this time, just three months after her son's defeat.
