Description
London & Edinburgh: printed for Sir William Stirling Maxwell, 1872. First editions, 2 copies (50 copies printed, these numbered 10 and 22 respectively), large folio, each with title-page in red and black, with 199 portraits (with some plates pasted in) on 114 leaves, original half morocco, light brown cloth over bevelled boards, top edge gilt, the first copy with split to the upper joint, one board detached, some scratching, water-staining to the lower outer corner of title-page, prelims and first 48 leaves with one or two of the mounted page numbers affected, second copy with one board detached, patches of spotting throughout, mostly marginal on plate leaves
