Description
4to, contemporary orange quarter morocco, patterned paper sides, containing 70 wood-engravings on 40 sheets of thin paper (30 of the sheets containing two separate engravings), each sheet signed and numbered by Gill in pencil ('4/10 Eric G'), various dimensions (the largest 26.5 x 19.5cm, most slightly smaller, nos. 7-9 vignette-size only, 14 x 9cm or similar), mounted rectos only on hand-made paper leaves (one to a page), with Eric Gill's autograph inscription in pencil on front free endpaper 'Troilus & Criseyde, printed & published by the Golden Cockerel Press, Borders & illustrations engraved by Eric Gill, 1927. Note: The prints on pp. 2, 3, 4, & 10 and pp. 24-40 (inclusive) are burnished prints. The remainder are press prints. EG', tear to foot of spine, paper lifting along fore edge of front board, variable spotting to prints [cf. Chanticleer 50, Evan Gill 279]
