First edition, folio (37 x 55cm), 180 engraved plates including 5 bis., 135 bis. and 136 bis., contemporary calf-backed boards with title in large, neat manuscript to the upper cover, custom-made clamshell box, spine perishing and split, some edge wear to covers, a few plates browned, a little dust-soiling and spotting

William Adam began work on these plates in 1727. 135 sets of 150 plates were produced in 1728. Due to lack of subscriptions the collection was not published in book form until his son, John, took up the mantle in 1811. The final published version contains additional plates selected by John Adam.
