on Board His Grace's the Duke of Rutland's Yacht Resolution, in the Summer of 1848. London: Thomas McLean, 1850. Folio (49.6 x 33cm), original cloth, rebacked in red morocco, gilt decoration to front board, 74 pp., tinted lithographic title-page and 28 similar plates (4 folding) by J. Needham after Schetky, all hand-coloured and heightened in gum arabic, lithographic dedication leaf, original spine mounted to rear free endpaper, dedication leaf slightly spotted, offsetting from plates to text, 'Armadale Castle' with marginal finger-mark, 'Earl Patrick Stewarts old castle of Scalloway Zetland' slightly spotted at foot, folding plates 'On the River Clyde' and 'Tobermory' with a little marginal spotting, 'Kyles of Bute' loose, 'On the River Clyde' and 'In Glen Nevis' each with old creasing to one corner, a few other marks [Abbey Scenery 494]

First and only edition, coloured issue, rare. John Christian Schetky was a noted marine artist born in Edinburgh to a family of Transylvanian ancestry, and was successively marine painter in ordinary to George IV, William IV and Queen Victoria. There are views in and around Campbeltown, Mull, Skye, Loch Ness, Orkney, Shetland, and elsewhere.
