4to (28 x 23cm), contemporary red half sheep, approx. 65 pp., in ink on feint-ruled wove paper, possibly a fair copy, kept by one John Gould, including logs of voyages to and from New Orleans in 1852 in the 'Sumroo', and to San Francisco in the 'Anne Cheshyre' in 1853, logs of work towing or transporting ships arriving at Liverpool docks from New York, Canada, Calcutta, New Orleans, etc., and similar notes, loss to spine;
Trade. Manuscript exercise book, late 18th century. 4to (20.2 x 16cm), contemporary morocco-backed boards with blue silk or glazed linen covering, approx. 200 pp., containing definitions and examples of key terms in mathematics for business, including direct proportion, inverse proportion, simple interest, compound interest, 'rebate or discount', 'barter', profit and loss, the double rule of three, tare and tret, etc., e.g. 'D E and F join their stocks in trade; the amount of their stocks is £64 and they are in proportion as 4, 6, and 8 are to one another, and the amount of the gain is equal to D's stock, what is each mans stock and gain?', first leaf excised;
and 2 other manuscripts (memorandum book for the North and South Wales Bank Limited, Liverpool, 1857-1904, folio, contemporary vellum, 222 pp., spine slightly defective; manuscript commonplace book kept by one Charles George Robert Birch, 1840s-50s, 4to, contemporary purple roan, front cover detached, 125 pp., containing apparently original doggerel verse including 'The Dogiad' etc.)
