Künstliche Conterfeytunge der Bäume, Stauden, Hecken, Kreuter, Getreyde, Gewürtze. Frankfurt: Sigismund Latomus for Vincent Steinmeyer, 1616. Folio, hand-coloured woodcuts throughout, lacks t4 and AA1 of first part, and CC1 and Ff3-4 of second part, lacking blank corner of F4, FF1 and Ggi, a few tears, some dampstaining and soiling, a few tears, colophon defective, title with some loss to fore margin affecting a few words of imprint (supplied in pen facsimile), 18th century half calf, some contemporary annotations, rubbed and soiled, one corner missing; sold not subject to return

Lonicer's popular Kreuterbuch, first printed in 1557 and frequently reprinted, was a compilation based on previous works, principally Eucharius Rösslin's Kreuterbuch of 1533 and T. Dorsten's Botanicon. Approximately 840 text woodcuts of plants animals, fish, precious stones, distilling apparatus and scenes of rural life, the woodcuts coloured by a contemporary hand.
