Note: The Rev. Hon. Henry Alfred Napier (1797-1871) was the son of Francis Napier, 8th Lord Napier of Merchistoun, and the author of 'Historical notices of the Parishes of Swycombe and Ewelme in the county of Oxford'. (1858). A substantial part of the autobiography comprises accounts of his extensive travels on the continent in the 1830's and 40's.
