First edition, 4 volumes, folio, number 522 of 600 copies, 90 colour plates by Archibald Thorburn, H. Grönvold, G.E. Lodge & others, 87 photogravures, 20 maps, original maroon/red cloth gilt, small dampstain affecting extreme lower margin of some plates and text of volume 1, light foxing on a small number of plates, very slight discolouration from tissue guards (as usual), very slight wear to spine ends, bookplates of Nelson Doubleday
