Hephaestionis enchiridion. Florence: per haeredes Philippi Iuntae, 1526. First edition of Hephaestion's Enchiridion., 8vo (166 x 92mm.), a8-F8, [A1]-G3, late 19th century vellum, spine lettered in gilt, g.e., 6pp. of autograph notes by William Graham incorporating the autograph signature of John S. Blackie, Professor of Greek at Edinburgh University & Founder of the Celtic Studies there, fore-margin of title slightly trimmed, title page very slightly spotted, last few leaves very slightly dampstained

Note: "The last and most interesting part of this Volume is the most valuable as a literary relic, being the very rare First edition of Hephaestion's Enchiridion or Manual of Greek poetic Metres. Hephaestion was a Grammarian of Alexandria (c.120-180 AD). His work is valued as being the only complete treatise on the subject with has survived... it is from Hephaestion that most of our ideas on classical prosody are obtained".
