Provenance: Appleby Castle Library, Appleby Castle, Westmorland
Note: An excellent copy of Albertus Magnus' critical commentaries on the Gospels of St. Matthew and St. Mark. In the previous year Rynman and Gran had published his commentaries to St. Luke and St. John. Albertus Magnus (?1206-1280), described as the most widely read and learned man of his time, was as much a philosopher and scientist as a theologian. His greatest achievement was to absorb and interpret the works of Aristotle for his age from the Latin translations and notes of the Arabian commentators. Rare.
Ownership inscription on title page of Fr. Andreas Ridelius dated 1633 and a further inscription recording its donation to the Franciscan Convent at Prague in 1647. Marginal annotations throughout.
